Kids Rock Stars
Childhood obesity is a growing epidemic in the country. Studies link obesity with conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and other disorders. Children who are obese often grow up to be obese in adulthood.
Phoenix Children's Hospital is reaching out to the children in our communities to combat childhood obesity through our Kids Rock Stars program.
The program motivates children to make healthy choices through physical activity and good nutrition, and specifically reaches out to schools Valley-wide.
Each year, more than 1,000 students participate.
How the program works:
- Kids Rock Stars happens during the school year.
- Kids set a goal to walk or jog 25.2 miles during the school year.
- Kids track their miles throughout the year.
- Kids learn about nutrition and are encouraged to eat healthy foods.
- Kids who meet the 25.2 mile goal may compete in PF Chang's Rock and Roll Marathon Kids Rock Event - a one-mile kids' fun run, sponsored by Phoenix Children's Hospital.
- Children and their families are encouraged to walk or jog together
- School teachers reward children as they complete their miles.
Kids don't have to be in a participating school to take part in PF Chang's Rock and Roll Marathon Kids Rock Event. Register online for the January 17, 2009 event.
