Expansion

As Arizona grows, so must Phoenix Children's Hospital.

Through a major expansion, our Hospital will continue to provide world-class care for years to come.
NEW: See detailed plans for Phase I improvements, to be completed by 2012.

The expansion plan – including major facility upgrades, branching out to high-growth areas of the Valley, and staff additions – is the Hospital's strategic response to the explosive population growth expected in Arizona during the next two decades.

Our vision to become one of the best pediatric hospitals in the nation also drives our pursuit of knowledge through research and new collaborations - to find the best treatments and provide cutting-edge care.

As we move forward to provide hope, healing, and the best healthcare for seriously ill children, we make a precious investment in our future - our children.

The region's population growth - a looming crisis

  • Phoenix is the nation's 5th-largest city by population
  • 970,000 children live in the Phoenix area
  • 347,000 children live in the East Valley
  • 1.5 million children will live in the Phoenix area by 2030
  • Significant growth is expected in the West, North Central, and Southeast Valley areas
  • By 2030, the Valley will need 800 more pediatric beds
  • By 2030, the Hospital will need nearly 200 more physicians to meet the need for pediatric medical care

Meeting the Valley's pediatric needs over the next three decades:

  • 12 more operating rooms
  • All private rooms
  • 1,500 new parking spaces
  • 626 licensed beds, 520 beds in all-private-room setting
