Facility upgrades
Central campus expansion
The existing campus on Thomas Road will grow to include:
- A new parking garage and central plant
- A new Hospital, featuring an 11-story patient tower and expansive outpatient clinic space
- A new main entry boulevard off of Thomas Road, to improve access and way finding for patients, families and visitors
- An increase from 345 beds today, to an anticipated 632 licensed beds by 2012 including: up to 188 beds in the existing hospital building; 334 private beds in the new tower; and 110 beds in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at McDowell
While construction on the new patient tower is underway, the existing tower will be remodeled to keep up with modern-day demands.
McDowell campus NICU renovation

The facility sets a benchmark for neonatal care in the United States with 38,000 square feet and 110 private patient rooms, or "womb rooms." The nursery grew to four times its previous size, enabling our medical team to provide the highest level of care in a setting that benefits both patients and their families. Read more.
