Valley students bring a community together for Water Safety Day on March 29

 

Phoenix Children's continues to lead the charge to prevent child drownings 

 

The Valley's kickoff to the 2011 swimming season is just around the corner on March 29, and Phoenix Children's Hospital is at the center of the effort with Valley Toyota Dealer's 12th Annual Water Safety Day; again proudly presented by the SRP Safety Connection. 

 

 

 

Why does the whole community come together to support Water Safety Day?  Because Arizona has one of the highest child drowning rates in America.  Last year in Maricopa County alone, 20 children drowned (see Weston's story), and approximately another ten children suffered permanent neurological injury.  But with continued awareness and water safety education, we can help you minimize the risks and prevent child drownings.

 

This year, more than 1,100 first-grade students will be in attendance with community support so strong that the event has come to be known as the Valley’s official kickoff to swimming season.

 

Students participating in this one-of-a-kind celebration of water safety enjoy an abundance of activities, including:

 

  • Live rescue demonstrations and water safety lessons
  • Special Build-A-Reminder workshops with La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, which will allow children to take home crafty reminders of the lessons they have learned  
  • A high-energy, singing firefighter show, a puppetry show and a large Kid Zone carnival area
  • The Valley's most unified display of public safety support with fire trucks, rescue boats, and more

Water Watchers

Phoenix Children's Water Watchers program is recognized throughout the United States. Started in 1998, the program emphasizes the ABC's of Water Safety: adult supervision, barriers (fences), and classes (such as CPR and swimming lessons at the appropriate age). 

 

Volunteer

Help us make a difference by volunteering at the event.  Positions are open for event preparation the day of the event on March 29.
