Course Description:
The goal of this free Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course is to provide the learner with:
* Information needed to recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest.
* The cognitive and psychomotor skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in respiratory failure, shock or cardiopulmonary arrest.
Course Requirements:
Per American Heart Association (AHA) standards, all students must have the current AHA course textbook for their individual use before, during, and after the course. Students are expected to review the textbook before class and to have immediate access to their own copy afterwards as a reference and review tool. Textbooks are designed for individual use and are an integral part of the student's education. Students must adequately prepare to successfully complete the PALS Provider Course. Students should complete the test on the PALS student CD. A hardcopy of the pre-test is also available in the Education Office.
What you will need to bring:
* A copy of your current or expired PALS card.
* A copy of your current Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
* A printout of the completed pre-course test (84 percent or above).
* A current American Heart Association PALS manual. This manual should be read before attending class and is extremely helpful in passing the course. If you do not already have a PALS manual or unable to borrow one, it is important that you purchase a manual from the Education Office for $35.
