The Early Childhood Development Program

New parents often say that they wish their baby came with an instruction manual. Mothers and fathers with young children want more information and support on the everyday issues they face such as sleeping, crying, toilet training, discipline and how to encourage their child to learn.
The Early Childhood Development Program (EDCP) at Phoenix Children's Hospital provides that information and support to parents, as they nurture the emotional, behavioral, intellectual and physical growth of their children.
The EDCP (formerly Healthy Steps) provides free services to patients (0 - 8 years old) and their families, as well as the community.
Our Services to Patients and Families
The ECDP services are closely integrated with our general pediatrics clinic. At each well-child visit between 6 months - 5 years old, we provide:
- Expert information on child development/parenting topics
- Breastfeeding support and consultations by certified lactation counselor
- Car seat information by certified child passenger safety technicians
- Reach Out and Read books
Community Services
The ECDP offers free playgroups to the community, to promote early childhood socialization and parental bonding.
