Autism
In autism, the brain does not develop normal social and communication skills. It is a developmental disorder that may include:
- impaired social interactions
- impaired spoken and nonverbal communication
- repeated patterns of behavior
Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe. Signs of autism appear in the first 3 years of life, but it may be diagnosed much later.
