Hospitalization

Sometimes sick or injured children need to stay in a hospital for tests, procedures, or treatments. A hospital can be a foreign place to parents who are not health care professionals. A child may be upset by the new bed, the new people, medical equipment, and experiences.

Some topics included in children's hospitalization are:

  • advanced medical directives
  • behavior after hospitalization
  • consent forms
  • emergency care
  • family centered care
  • infants in the hospital
  • intensive care unit or ICU
  • patient confidentiality
  • preparation for hospitalization or surgery
