Fellows and Residents

Medical and Research education is a core strategic priority for the Institute.  The Institute promotes professional education through seminars, physician-training symposia and on-line course offerings.  Additionally, community education is promoted by development of patient / family networks, web-based education and disease / disorder-focused community programs.

Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowship

The Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowship received accreditation in June 2011. Recruitment for fellows is ongoing. This one-year clinical fellowship, which follows seven years of neurosurgery training, is based at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and will provide an organized, supervised, full time educational experience in this subspecialty area. In addition, the fellow will take on a personal research project through the available resources of Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Pediatric Neurology Residency Program

With the alliance between BNI and PCH, the Child Neurology Residency has moved to PCH.  Child Neurology is classified as a "dependent residency" and is linked to the Adult Neurology Residency program at the BNI.  The Child Neurology Residency program is a three year program which follows two years of general pediatrics preliminary training.  A five year combined program is now established at Phoenix Children's Hospital.  The Child Neurology and Adult Neurology residency programs completed the ACGME accreditation site review in November 2011.

Pediatric Psychology Training Internship

In keeping with the training mission of PCH, the Psychology Department has developed a pre-doctoral internship program, accredited by the American Psychological Association.  Now under the direction of Dr. John Barton, the program is about to welcome its fifth class, attracting applicants from across the nation.  After training in assessment, intervention, consultation, and evidence-based practice, interns go on to post-doctoral positions such as Children’s  Hospital Boston, Cleveland Clinic, Children’s Hospital of Orange County, Texas Children’s Hospital, and Children’s Medical Center Dallas.
