Antivirals for Stem Cell Patients

Antivirals treat viral infections.

Patients are given antivirals either to prevent a viral infection, or treat a known or suspected infection.

Acyclovir and Gancyclovir are examples of antiviral medications.

Immunoglobulins (IVIG) may be used to help boost the bodies ability to fight viral infections.

Patients take antiviral medications if they or their donor have been exposed to certain viruses.
