Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Process

The pediatric stem cell transplant process involves three components:

  • Pre-admission
  • Admission
  • Discharge

What is a Stem Cell Transplant?

A stem cell transplant is a highly specialized process that eliminates unhealthy bone marrow with chemotherapy and possibly radiation and then replacing it with new stem cells that help create cells that build healthy blood and marrow.

The new stem cells are harvested from stem cell sources, typically during the pre-admission phase. The type of stem cell transplant source is determined by a patient's specific type of disease.
