Stem Cell Transplant Sources and Donors

Stem cells for stem cell transplants at Phoenix Children's Hospital are collected from three primary groups of sources and donors:

  • Autologous: Cells come from the patient.
  • Allogeneic: Cells come from a related or non-related donor.
  • Syngenic: Cells come from an identical twin.

The decision for using a source and the process of harvesting cells from that source occur during the pre-admission phase of the stem cell transplant process.
