Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cell Transplant

A stem cell transplant patient at Phoenix Children's Hospital can have cells infused that were collected from an umbilical cord.

These stem cells, which are harvested from donated umbilical cord blood, are stored at medical facilities until a child is admitted.

The cord blood may come from a sibling of the patient, or more commonly from an unrelated donor.
