Single Ventricle and Shunt Follow-up Program at the Children's Heart Center

A long-standing program with impressive results

Neonate

Neonates with complex congenital heart disease conditions may undergo a Norwood, Sano, or BT Shunt operation. Modeled after a plan that was hand-picked from various other institutions and now a part of a national American College of Cardiology committee, Phoenix Children's cardiologists follow high risk neonates throughout their first year of life. The end result:  each family leaves the hospital with a meticulous checklist in hand, open lines of communication and an established network of support.

This complex congenital follow-up program is unique to the Southwest. It accepts any infant deemed high risk for any sort of complex congenital heart problem. Monitoring patients throughout their course of treatment, parents and pediatricians are well-informed and kept in the loop regarding all steps of the process.

In addition to offering patients a new, state-of-the-art facility and world-renowned surgeons capable of performing the most complex of procedures, one of the standout elements of this intensive follow-up program is its commitment to continuity of care and open communication. Cardiologists within the Children's Heart Center have noted significant improvements in family satisfaction as a result of the program.
