Nephrology

The Department of Nephrology at Phoenix Children's Hospital is the largest treatment center in the Southwest for infants, children, and adolescents with kidney (renal) disorders and high blood pressure (hypertension).  We evaluate and treat patients with all kidney-related problems including blood or protein in the urine, kidney stones, recurrent urinary tract infections, congenital kidney diseases, chronic kidney failure, dialysis, and kidney transplantation.

To provide the highest quality of care to our patients, the Nephrology Department features five pediatric nephrologists, two social workers dedicated to children with kidney diseases and their parents, a renal nutritionist, nurses specialized in kidney disorders, two child life specialists, and a school teacher for dialysis patients. This health care team is one-of-a-kind in the region, allowing us to provide more than 90 percent of the pediatric kidney transplants, hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis in the Southwest.

Additionally, Phoenix Children's comprehensive nephrology program includes Arizona's only dedicated Pediatric Dialysis Center, providing inpatient and outpatient hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, and the state's only dedicated Pediatric Kidney Transplant Program.  We have the state's largest 24-hour pediatric ambulatory blood pressure monitoring program, allowing us to pinpoint when high blood pressure readings are the result of anxiety or if additional testing is necessary.
