Pulmonology
The Pediatric Pulmonologists at Phoenix Children's Hospital provide care for children with respiratory diseases and disorders. Together the pediatric pulmonologists, certified pediatric nurse practitioners, specialized nurses and medical assistants, respiratory therapists, social workers and specialized nutritionists provide comprehensive care and follow-up for patients and their families.
Highlights
- The Cystic Fibrosis Center at Phoenix Children's was the first program in Arizona to be accredited by the national Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This program provides services for both children and adult patients with cystic fibrosis.
- The Tracheotomy and Airway Program is the only comprehensive inpatient and outpatient service patients to provide care for patients with tracheostomies and home ventilators in Arizona.
- The Sleep Disorders Clinic provides care for pateints with sleep disordered breathing, behavioral sleep issues, parasomnias, narcolepsy, and restless leg syndrome.
- The Apnea Management Program is Arizona's only center that provides care and support to infants and families on home apnea monitors on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.
- The Breathmobile is a mobile asthma clinic to help diagnose and treat childhood asthma in Phoenix's inner city, providing on-site asthma care and case management services.
- The Pediatric Respiratory Lab provides on-site respiratory testing for pulmonary patients. The Outpatient Respiratory lab provides testing for patients in the outpatient specialty clinics including:
- Pulmonary function testing including lung volumes,
- DLCO, IOS, spirometry (pre- and post-bronchodilator)
- In-clinic apnea monitor downloading
- Methacholine challenge
- Nap studies for ventilator, CPAP, or BiPAP dependent patients (including end-tidal CO2 monitoring, oximetry, and blood gas analysis)
- Exercise studies
- Asthma education
- Airway clearance education (including Therapy Vest, Flutter, PEP, CPT)
- Infant pulmonary function services
- The Asthma Program provides specialized physician care in managing the disease process. Nurses and therapists work with families and patients to provide best outcomes for patients.
