Radiology

The radiologists, nurses and technologists at Phoenix Children's Hospital are trained and experienced in pediatric procedures, ensuring the special attention that children need and resulting in faster and more accurate test results.

We recognize the importance of creating a safe and comfortable environment for children and their families. Our state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment has special pediatric features, and includes a full range of diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology services adjusted for safe use by infants, children and adolescents. This includes x-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, MRIs, fluoroscopy and nuclear medicine. Tests are performed on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.

Furthermore, parents can be present while most examinations are being completed. The department is full of art work, murals, and toys to reduce a child's anxiety.  A full time Child Life Specialist helps educate and calm the fears of the patient and their family.

Our staff's comprehensive skills -- more than 200 years of pediatric-only experience -- allows us to complete most examinations without sedation.  When sedation or anesthesia is necessary, the staff is able to provide it within all of the modalities.

Finally, the department is completely filmless; exams are burned to a CD and given to patients and physicians making it less cumbersome to view and transport images. Physicians are also able to view studies over the internet.
