Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s Miracles in Motion Program Begins August 18th – Runners Set to Start Training, Raising Funds

Phoenix Children’s Hospital announces the start of the 2012 Miracles in Motion program, a fundraising event that offers runners and non-runners alike the opportunity to train to run a full or half marathon. Training begins August 18, 2012, and will culminate in the P.F. Chang’s® Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon and Half Marathon held in January, 2013. This year marks the nine years of the event’s fundraising efforts.

Each Miracles in Motion participant runs in honor of a former or current Phoenix Children’s Hospital patient and must raise a minimum dollar amount. Participants come in all shapes, sizes, and ages, and have access to expert training advice and a personalized running plan as they lead up to the marathon events. Last year, 95 runners participated in the program and raised $140,000 for the Hospital, which takes the nine-year total to more than $700,000.

Race day entry fees are covered for Miracles in Motion participants, and a coach leads participants through an organized training program with weekly workout schedules. Free seminars on topics like proper shoes, stretching, injury prevention, nutrition, hydration, and mental and physical preparation for race day are open to all.

Individual participants are asked to raise at least $1,500, and teams that include 5 or more people are asked to raise $1,250 each. All money raised by Miracles in Motion is unrestricted, and will be used to support the growth of Phoenix Children’s and funds critical programs, technology and research, and provides the most urgent care for the patients and families served by the Hospital.
