ABC15 Telethon 2012

PHOENIX, Ariz. (March 30, 2012) – ABC15 will host its first one-day telethon benefiting Phoenix Children’s Hospital on Wednesday, April 11. The event will be broadcast live between 4:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. from the main hospital tower on Phoenix Children’s campus. The telethon will include ABC15 on-air personalities, inspiring stories from patients and families, and a phone bank staffed by sponsors, volunteers and special guests. Donors will have the opportunity to have a cozy handmade quilt given in their name to a patient.

“We are extremely grateful ABC15 has made the commitment to support Phoenix Children’s with the power of their station,” said Steve Schnall, the hospital’s Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer. “ABC15’s passion to serve our community and make a real difference for the patients and families at Phoenix Children’s is truly appreciated.”

Every dollar raised will have a direct impact on patient care and critical programs and services. Phoenix Children’s Hospital has been undergoing a major expansion in the past several years to keep up with the demand for its world-class care. A state-of-the-art new patient tower opened in 2011, making Phoenix Children’s one of the three largest children’s hospitals in the country. In 2012, plans are underway for a new emergency department and Level 1 Trauma Center to serve the more than 65,000 kids who need its care each year.

ABC15 talent who will be on-hand for the telethon include Amy Murphy, Connie Colla, Andi Barness, Kirk Yuhnke, Steve Irvin, Amber Sullins, Rebecca Thomas and Susan Casper. Donors can give by calling the live phone bank; going online to www.abc15.com; or, stopping by any Walgreens location in the Valley.

“Our first telethon benefiting Phoenix Children’s Hospital has the enthusiastic support of our entire ABC15 team,” said Anita Helt, Vice President and General Manager. “We only had to hear some of the patient stories and meet some of the families served by Phoenix Children’s in our community to know we need to help.”
