Dr. P. David Adelson Elected Membership to Prestigious Academy
Dr. P. David Adelson, FACS, FAAP, Director of the Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children's Hospital and the Division Chief of Neurosurgery, was elected membership to the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons last month.
Dr. Adelson is an internationally recognized neurosurgical and neuroscience expert in head injury and epilepsy in children. He joined Phoenix Children’s in 2008. Dr. Adelson has been lecturing in the United States and around the world, along with being published in numerous medical and scientific journals defining state-of-the-art in the care of children with traumatic brain injuries.
The American Academy of Neurological Surgery is a prestigious international invitational social and scientific association of neurosurgeons founded in 1938. The purpose of the Academy is to promote scientific and social intercourse among its members, to foster neurological surgery as a specialty of medicine, to encourage and sponsor basic and clinical research activity in the neurological sciences, and to promote the knowledge and skill of those who devote themselves to neurological surgery in accordance with the high ideals of the medical profession. Membership is limited to 105 Active members, and is by invitation of current members. Members are noteworthy for their scientific attainments in the field of neurosurgery.
Dr. Adelson was recruited to Arizona from the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He received his medical degree from Columbia University in New York and completed the neurosurgical residency program at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Medicine. He then obtained additional specialty training as a fellow in pediatric neurosurgery at Children's Hospital of Boston and Harvard Medical School before moving on to Pittsburgh.
