Due to the increased level of respiratory viruses being seen in the community, Phoenix Children’s Hospital announces temporary visitor restrictions will go into effect on Friday December 30th at 5 a.m. If you are visiting a child in the hospital, child visitors must be at least 12 years old to visit patients, and all visitors must be free from respiratory symptoms. These restrictions only apply to visitors, not Phoenix Children’s patients presenting in the Emergency Department or patients seeking medical care.

Phoenix Children's Hospital Offers Free Child Abuse Prevention Class
The Stewards of Children child abuse prevention class will be held on Wednesday, January 11th, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Rosenberg Medical Plaza, located on the Phoenix Children’s Hospital main campus. Parents, youth sports organizations / coaches / camp counselors, youth service organizations, teachers / school personnel and faith centers are encouraged to attend.

Pita Jungle to sell artwork created by patients at Phoenix Children’s Hospital
From December 10th-31st, Pita Jungle locations across the Valley will begin exhibiting framed artwork created by patients at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. All proceeds from the artwork will benefit our CCBD department.

Drowning Risk Increased in August - Purple Ribbon Campaign Vital to Raised Awareness
Drowning Impact Awareness Month” is Arizona’s most unified prevention effort. The statistics are grim: between 2000 and 2009, 325 Arizona children drowned. Drowning is a top cause of injury-related death for children in Arizona between the ages of one and five.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Issues New Safety Standards for Cribs
The Injury Prevention Center at Phoenix Children’s Hospital reminds parents there is nothing more important than keeping children safe while they sleep. Every year thousands of children suffer from crib related injuries. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, 14,600 children were injured from cribs or crib mattresses in the United States in 2009.

St. Joseph’s Hospital to Begin Reducing Pediatric Trauma Coverage
St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center will transition away from providing pediatric inpatient services and most pediatric outpatient programs, starting May 22, 2011. This transition will be completed on June 1, 2011 when inpatient pediatric units will close permanently at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Since December of 2010, visitors under the age of 12 were not permitted to enter the Hospital. All areas of the hospital will continue to prohibit visitors of any age with signs of illness (cough, fever, runny nose, rash, etc) from visiting patients.
