Phoenix, Ariz. (October 17, 2011) – The Phoenix Children’s Hospital Injury Prevention Center has unveiled a free “Car Seat Helper” app available at the iTunes App Store and Android Market. It’s an easy way for parents and caregivers to choose the right car seat for their children at any age.

The “Car Seat Helper” app is designed to help select the appropriate seat for a child’s age, height and weight and based on the latest recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics. The app also helps users find local resources for correct car seat installation, making it a convenient resource for families throughout the United States.

In addition to those benefits, the “Car Seat Helper” app offers information about all car seat types with instructional videos and eye-opening facts related to car seats.

According to data collected by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), as many as 75 percent of car seats on the road today are not properly installed. Properly installed and used child safety seats have been shown to reduce fatal injuries in infants by 71 percent and 54 percent in children from ages 1 to 4.

“The ‘Car Seat Helper’ provides clear information about choosing and using the right car seat for a child at every age,” says David Notrica, MD, medical director of Phoenix Children’s Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. “It’s a great resource for parents, caregivers and health professionals written by true experts in car seat safety."
