Understanding Your Bill
Although we try to make your visit with us as easy as possible, we realize that healthcare billing is complex and sometimes confusing. The following information will help you to understand the types of bills you may receive from us.
Why am I being billed?
Normally, if you have a balance after your insurance has made payment, it is because you have not met your "out of pocket" expenses. Your employer or insurance company has set the amount you are responsible to pay. If you believe your insurance should have paid the balance at 100 percent, you should review your Explanation of Benefits, or contact your insurance carrier.
Why am I getting more than one bill?
When you visit Phoenix Children's Hospital you may receive more than one bill. The bill you receive from Phoenix Children's is for use of our facility. The physicians, radiologists and other specialists, may bill you separately from their own practices. We all work together to provide excellent care for your child.
Is my insurance being billed?
Phoenix Children's Hospital will bill the insurance company you gave us at the time of registration for your visit. We will send you statements indicating that your insurance company has been billed and the status. When your insurance company pays Phoenix Children's, you will receive a bill for any balance remaining.
Can I get a discount on the amount I owe?
We understand that sometimes it is difficult to plan financially for unexpected illness and injury. It is our commitment to the community we serve to provide exceptional patient care at a reasonable price. Phoenix Children's Hospital has a Financial Assistance Program that could help you.
I have no job and cannot pay this bill.
Phoenix Children's is committed to providing Financial Assistance to persons who have health care needs and are uninsured, underinsured, ineligible for a government program and otherwise unable to pay, for medically necessary care based on their individual financial situations. Consistent with its mission to deliver compassionate, high quality, affordable health care services and to advocate for those who are poor and disenfranchised, Phoenix Children's strives to ensure that the financial capacity of people who need health care services does not prevent them from seeking or receiving care. Financial Counselors can review your current financial status to determine whether you will qualify for known financial assistance programs, hospital based charity care, or discounted payment plans based on financial need. Read the complete Financial Assistance Program policy (PDF) or download the summary (PDF).
