Gastroenterology
The Division of Gastroenterology (GI) at Phoenix Children's Hospital is the largest and most established referral center in Arizona for chronic liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and nutritional disorders in pediatric patients.
The GI Division at Phoenix Children's offers a full range of services to diagnose, treat and manage intestinal, pancreatic, liver and nutritional disorders in infants, children and adolescents on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.
The GI interdisciplinary staff consists of board-certified gastroenterologists, nurse practitioners, specialized nurses and medical assistants, nutritionists and social workers working as a team to care for all of the child's healing needs.
The department also offers a state-of-the-art, full-service laboratory using specialized equipment and techniques scaled for a child's smaller anatomy, including endoscopic and manometric evaluation. The Pediatric Endoscopy Center is the first and only one in Arizona, allowing parents in room to comfort their child.
Demonstrating the Hospital's commitment to education and research, the GI department trains nurses and rotates pediatric and adult medicine students through its program. The physicians are also involved in research collaborations with the University of Arizona and the Translational Genomics Institute (TGen), studying inflammatory bowel, gastroesophageal reflux, and microvillus inclusion diseases.
