The Stroke Program, led by John Condie, MD, a stroke and neuro-critical care expert, includes pediatric neurologists specializing in pediatric stroke, pediatric neuroradiologists and multiple pediatric subspecialists in hematology and vascular medicine, cardiology, rheumatology, psychiatry, and physical, occupational and speech therapy.

Muscle Biopsy Interpretation Now Available Through Phoenix Children's Department of Pathology
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine announces the addition of muscle biopsy interpretation to its Anatomic Pathology test menu. Muscle biopsies are performed in patients with neuromuscular or rheumatologic disorders and involve the performance of histochemical and immunohistochemical stains for enzymes and membrane proteins on frozen sections of skeletal muscle.
This testing is performed in addition to electron microscopy and morphometric analysis. Our extensive menu of 20 new stains will enable the diagnosis of a variety of neurogenic, myopathic, and inflammatory disorders to aid in the management of these patients. Morphometric analysis of myofiber size using an interactive computerized program serves as an adjunct to the diagnosis of congenital myopathies such as congenital fiber size disproportion or myotonic dystrophy.
For further information, please contact Daphne deMello, MD, at (602) 546-1283.
