Pediatric Residency Program
The Phoenix Children's Hospital/Maricopa Medical Center Pediatric Residency Program is a comprehensive, fully accredited, three-year program. It combines experiences at a major multispecialty children's hospital (Phoenix Children's Hospital) and a large public medical center (Maricopa Medical Center). These hospitals serve the city of Phoenix and the surrounding metropolitan area with a current population of approximately five million.
The Pediatric Residency program has been in existence since 1974. We are fully accredited by the ACGME, and a primary affiliate of the University of Arizona College of Medicine and Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.
Children are transferred to our hospitals from all over Arizona. The patient referral base provides our residents with an abundance of clinical experiences. Representing all areas of general and subspeciality pediatrics, the faculty is highly trained committed and very accessible to the house staff. There is a strong emphasis on teaching among both faculty and residents, with camaraderie and a pervasive team spirit throughout the program. We accept 30 pediatric residents each year.
One of the many strengths of the Residency Program is the availability of a large diverse patient population. Our location in a tri-cultural area gives residents the opportunity to work with Native American and Hispanic populations. Our curriculum is broad-based, preparing pediatricians for careers in both primary care and subspecialty pediatrics. Each year, many of our graduates enter prestigious fellowship programs, while others pursue careers in academic or general pediatrics. We also offer a program in Combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics.
A personal tour of our facilities is welcomed. Residents at all levels of training, as well as faculty, are available to share information about our training programs. We welcome the opportunity to answer any questions. We are confident that the residents who graduate from our program are well prepared to embark on careers in any facet of pediatrics. The program offers a generous compensation and benefits package.
