Phoenix Business Journal Awards "Health Care Heroes" at Phoenix Children’s

On any given day at Phoenix Children's, someone does something heroic.  From the doctor who works long, hard hours to the tiny patient that decides to be brave, our halls are filled with stories of courage, compassion, and hope.  But this year, a local business publication has singled out five members of the Phoenix Children's family for going above the call of duty.

Three Phoenix Children's medical professionals were named "Health Care Heroes" at the annual awards program sponsored by the Phoenix Business Journal on August 23, 2007.  Two more from Phoenix Children's were honored as finalists in their category.

A panel of community leaders selected:

  • educator Melvin L. Cohen MD, for the Lifetime Achievement Award;

  • cancer physician and researcher Jessica Boklan, MD, for Researcher/Scientist;

  • and critical care doctor David Beyda, MD, for Community Outreach.

  • Cardiac nurse Liv Lowry, RN, was a finalist for Healthcare Provider, Nurse.

  • Heart surgeon Michael Teodori, MD, was a finalist for Healthcare Provider, Physician.

Every year, "Health Care Heroes" recognizes those professionals who constantly strive for excellence, expand the horizons of healthcare, and make a lasting impact on our community.  Last year, the program named Phoenix Children's physician Randy Christensen, MD, a "Health Care Hero" in the Community Outreach category for his work with the “Crews’n’Healthmobile” healthcare service for homeless teens.

Here's a peek into the contributions of our 2007 "Health Care Heroes" at Phoenix Children's.
