Volunteer
Interested in becoming a volunteer at Phoenix Children's Hospital?
Where would we be without our volunteers, both in the Hospital and throughout the community? Our volunteers help us to provide the best hope, healing, and care to children and families here at Phoenix Children's.
Corporate CEO's, retired seniors, stay at home moms, high school and college students have all stepped out of their busy lives to make time for helping others at Phoenix Children's.
Hospital Volunteers
Are you looking for a rewarding experience? Are you available 2-4 hours a week? At Phoenix Children’s Hospital, we provide our volunteers with specialized training at no cost to them. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer in the hospital and volunteers between ages 16 and 18 will need parental permission. Here is a brief outline of our process:
Take the First Step
- Attend a Volunteer Information Session
- Submit a completed application
- Interview if your available time matches our current hospital needs
- Complete background check
- Complete Health Screening including blood draw, substance screening and tuberculin test
- Complete Hospital Orientation (8.5 hour training various Mondays monthly)
- Complete additional trainings as applicable, identified during your interview
Since this process is costly, we ask that each volunteer commit to a minimum of 100 hours of service annually.
Still interested? Find a 1-hour Volunteer Information Session from our Calendar of Events page! Choose a date that works for your schedule, then the event details and sign up right online. Seating is limited so we appreciate your RSVP!
At that session, we’ll review the service areas we’re currently recruiting for, program commitments and hand out application information. This is the mandatory first step all volunteers take to join our team of volunteers here inside the hospital.
Are you a student and under the age of 21 years old?
Then yes, we have a place here for you!
For students ages 13-15, we offer a six week Candystriper program which allows the completion of 50 volunteer hours during June-July. Watch for details about each year’s program online each February as the selection process begins during the spring.
For students ages 16 and older who have a focus on nursing or medicine, we offer an eight week Summer Intensive Program which allows the completion of 100 volunteer hours during May-July. Watch for details about each year’s program online each February as the selection process begins during the spring.
