Jordan and Joshua

Age: 11

Diagnosis:

Joshua and Jordan were diagnosed at birth with Sickle Cell disease. Both have the most severe form of it.

With Sickle Cell disease blood cells will clot in an area and restrict blood flow. Symptoms can be caused by a variety of things like physical activity, stress, not enough water, too hot or too cold.

They are hospitalized about once every 3-4 months and can be here anywhere from 5-7 days at a time.

Joshua and Jordan often require blood transfusions and narcotics for pain (the disease causes severe pain). They have been patients of the hematology department since 2003.
