Rosie
Rosie was diagnosed in March 2005 with a brain tumor. She was 15 at the time and enjoyed running track. She started complaining of backaches. Her family was told by another doctor that she had strained her back. The next morning she came out of her bedroom and said something wasn't right, her arm was moving uncontrollably.
Her parents took her to a local Emergency Department where a CT scan showed she had two tumors side by side on her brain stem. Rosie was transferred to Phoenix Children's Hospital and Dr. Deering operated that night because it was beginning to affect her breathing.

Dr. Manwaring put a shunt in her head to drain fluid. Rosie underwent chemotherapy and radiation. A few months later Dr. Manwaring removed 80 percent of the tumor. She was paralyzed on the right side and spent a year in the Hospital relearning how to walk and talk.
Today, Rosie is still on an oral chemotherapy drug. She's managing well.
