Incentives and training
"It meant a lot to us that someone who didn't know us or Max was so willing to make the time commitment to train, fundraise, and most importantly run this marathon in Max's honor. The added bonus was we made a wonderful friend in the process." - Patricia and Michele Marangella, parents of Max, Honor Patient
Meeting your honor patient
There is no better incentive than running in honor of a Phoenix Children's patient. You'll meet the patient at a kick-off and post celebration party. Many patients are also there on race day cheering on their runner. It's an amazing experience. Sharing your patient's story with others is both inspirational as well as a point of pride for our patients.
Training
Participants will train with an experienced coach and receive a detailed training schedule – whether you are running the marathon or ½ marathon.
Throughout the season there will also be seminars on various topics related to running, including:
- stretching,
- the best shoes for your foot,
- injury prevention,
- nutrition,
- hydration,
- and mentally and physically preparing for the big day.
Group Runs
From August through December, participants will have team training and group runs every other Saturday. Meet at G.R. Herberger Park located at 5802 E. Indian School Road in Phoenix. Map it.
Race Day Incentives
All race entry fees are paid. Runners will also receive a free Dri-fit team shirt, a 10 percent discount at Runner's Den, and various gift certificates.
